The No. 12 UNC men’s lacrosse team picked up a second ranked road win on the young season Saturday, defeating No. 19 Syracuse 19-13.

Carolina scored 12 goals in the first half alone after only netting five in its loss at Ohio State last weekend. Saturday’s explosion staked the Tar Heels to a 12-6 lead at halftime, a lead which never dipped below three goals for the rest of the game.

Logan McGovern was one of three Tar Heels to record a hat trick on the day, adding four assists to his four goals for a team-high eight points. The graduate transfer from Bryant leads the team with 10 goals through four games this season. Lance Tillman and Antonio DeMarco each found the back of the net three times.

After trailing 4-3 late in the first quarter, Carolina used a relentless 8-3 run extending into the early third quarter to blow the game open. The Orange scored four straight goals of their own in response, but the game was never truly in doubt. Goalie Collin Krieg made 12 saves, and has now recorded at least 10 saves in every game this season. His 42 shots faced were by far a season-high.

The win also draws to a close a challenging early-season road trip for the Tar Heels, who will finally return home against Denver next Saturday. It will be Carolina’s first home game in more than three weeks. Opening face-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
