The ACC is shaking up its football schedules. The conference officially announced it would eliminate the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions and move to a 3-5-5 scheduling model beginning in 2023. Under this model, each ACC team plays three conference opponents every year and rotates between the the remaining 10 teams, playing five each year for a total of eight conference games. UNC’s three permanent opponents are Duke, NC State and Virginia.

In the new division-less ACC, the two top finishers among the 14-team conference will play for the conference championship.

Because of this announcement, Carolina now knows its full list of ACC opponents for the next four years. 2023 will see the team host Duke, Miami, Syracuse and Virginia while playing road games at Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, NC State and Clemson. The Clemson game will be the team’s first trip to Death Valley since 2014.

In 2024, the Tar Heels will host Boston College for the first time since 2013 and visit Louisville for the first time since 2012. The Cardinals joined the ACC in 2015.
