“The Changemakers” is a monthly interview on 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com presented by LAUNCH Chapel Hill, a startup accelerator and local community of entrepreneurs and innovators! Listen below for this month’s spotlight on Terra Trust

In this month’s edition of “The Changemakers,” join 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck for a conversation with Mike DiPetrillo, CEO of Terra Trust, about what the trust does, how it helps clients, and works to assist in understanding more of a rapidly-changing world.

“I spent the last 30 years of my life in tech, Big Tech, solving various different problems.” said DiPetrillo. “[I] looked around the last five years I spent in sustainability, and looked at tech, and no one’s really paying attention to the environmental impact of tech overall.”

Terra Trust is an AI driven data and analytics company that enables technology buyers and providers to determine the True Cost of their technology decisions through the integration of financial, sustainability, and risk factor data resulting in real time insights available to multiple departments for smarter, more aligned business decisions.

“People are concerned about it. Energy use, water use. Some of those types of things come up a lot of times, but it’s really looking at it from a carbon impact perspective. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg,” said DePetrillo. “If you look at tech, $6 trillion is spent on tech every year. 5% of the global GDP growing 10% year over year. So it’s big spend and people use two decision points. Did it meet the price and did it meet the performance needs that I have? And they ignore the other 80% of the externalities.”
