“The Changemakers” is a monthly interview on 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com presented by LAUNCH Chapel Hill, a startup accelerator and local community of entrepreneurs and innovators! Listen below for this month’s spotlight on “Cubicle,” an office-inspired improv-comedy party-in-a-box!

“‘Cubicle’ is a party game, so that’s any sort of super simple game that you can pick up, play it with friends, play it with family, play it with people you know,” said Daniel Rabinovich, from the team behind Cubicle. “It’s meant to be a game that involves a lot of talking, a lot of laughing.”

Fully funded on Kickstarter, Cubicle’s approach to a classic party game formula spins scenarios out of Performance Reviews and sends players off on tangents by presenting evolutions of Excuses, accusations of poor job performance, and the chasing of the all-important Big Promotion.

“Myself and my co-founder Philip, we both met in high school when we were both freshmen,” said Rabinovich. “For us, it was something that was a passion project — at the beginning we didn’t really know how to do anything. We didn’t know how to design, we didn’t know how to build or develop a card game. So, for help, we kind of turned to LinkedIn for this passion project that we were creating. We got so much more interest than we originally expected, so many people were willing to help us out, to build this project with us.”

Those collaborations eventually became the foundation of Underscore Games, and the launch of Cubicle on Kickstarter. With the project funded and post-crowdfunding sales complete, manufacturing of the game is currently scheduled for March of 2025 with shipping soon to follow in the same year!
