Located in Efland, Wildflower Lane Farm is one of Orange County’s wonderful small organic farms. Born 35 years ago as a wildflower farm, 10 years ago, owner Jim Sander started a part-time farming operation on the 12 acre property selling organic produce to Weaver Street Market, Whole Foods and local restaurants in Orange County. After 7 years, tiring of the business end of commercial farming, he stopped farming for profit, and wondered if there was a different way to do it. One day, walking around Carrboro, Sander passed the entrance to TABLE, and saw their tag line “feeding local children” on the sign, and an idea was inspired! Sander was recently interviewed for a documentary for Sci NC airing on PBS in which he talks about why he started in farming and how he grew his farm into a successful business while supporting local kids through his partnership with TABLE.
