This October, All About Insurance is kicking off the second annual Sock-Tober Sock Drive, collecting socks to benefit local non-profits and people in need.
Socks are often listed as one of the most-needed items at homeless shelters, and despite being so in-demand and highly requested, they remain one of the least-donated items. Rarely included in bulk clothing donations, socks are a necessary part of keeping warm and safe in colder months. As temperatures drop, a good pair of socks does everything from preventing frostbite to improving circulation and preventing foot-related health issues. Clean and properly fitting socks and essential for everyone, but when some estimates place the average miles walked per day for a homeless person at roughly 10 miles — the need for good footwear becomes apparent.
According to AAI, last year’s inaugural sock drive resulted in over 10,000 donations to local shelters, a big step forward when it comes to keeping people warmer this winter.
During the Sock-Tober Sock Drive, new and clean lightly-used socks will be accepted. Donations can be made at any of All About Insurance’s 12 locations starting on October 3 and running through the holiday season in December.
For the folks who need it most, a little help goes a long way. Consider purchasing an extra pack of socks (or two!) as you refresh your drawer this fall, and be a part of keeping our friends and neighbors in better health and better spirits this year!
