“Built The Right Way” is a bi-monthly interview series sponsored by Marvin Windows and Doors, featuring interviews with experts involving in home building, development, construction, architecture and everything in between! Join 97.9 The Hill in each iteration to learn something new about what it takes — and what it means— to build the right way!

In the second episode of “Built The Right Way,” join 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck for a conversation with David Fitch, of Fitch Lumber and Hardware, as well as Tom DiBenidetto — who now works with the Town of Chapel Hill after retiring from a career of building and developing in New York.

“Speaking as a retired builder-developer, the first question we always get is, ‘when are you gonna start?’ The next question we always get is, ‘hey, when are you gonna be done?” said DiBenidetto. “So, knowing how things work is a very important part of that. The first question you always have to answer is if something is allowed to be done. What that means is that every local municipality or jurisdiction will set a plan up of how they want their community to look like and how they want the infrastructure of their community to operate.”

According to DiBenidetto, whether that means building breweries or single-family homes, the most important piece of the puzzle is understanding where you’re building, why, and what you’ll be doing with it in the future.
