A light snow could be coming to central North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

But, Nick Petro at the National Weather Service in Raleigh says that it could be “efficient.”

The air is cold.  The expected high temperature in Chapel Hill on Tuesday is 31 degrees and the low will be 10.  This means that roads are cold, also.  So, any amount, even a very light snowfall, could produce more problems than a similar snow otherwise would.

A 1/2 inch of accumulation, especially during rush hour on highly traveled roads, could result in slick spots.

But, the good news for commuters is that the air is dry.  Much of the snow should “dry up” before hitting the ground.

Most people, however, are thinking about another winter weather event.  Starting on Thursday night, a high-impact winter storm could hit central North Carolina.  But, according to the National Weather Service, it too soon to predict just how “high-impact” the storm will be.  A mix of rain, freezing rain, or snow will be expected between Thursday night and Saturday.
