UNC students will be able to get themselves a new sweet treat on campus this fall.
On Tuesday morning, Carolina Dining Services announced a new store called The Scoop will be opening on the bottom floor of Lenoir Hall, one of the main dining halls on UNC’s campus. In addition to selling milkshakes, sundaes and pastries, The Scoop will also serve ice cream from the local Maple View Farm.
The Scoop’s location was previously occupied by several tenants, including the smoothie shop Freshens. The Scoop is the first new store to open in Lenoir Hall since Village Juice & Kitchen this past February, which took over for Merritt’s.
Maple View’s main location in Hillsborough has become a staple of local Orange County cuisine. Though the Maple View Farm and Milk Company closed last September, the ice cream shop remained open. Maple View also operates several stands around the area, including at University Place near Silverspot Cinema.
The bottom floor of Lenoir also includes restaurants such as Chick-Fil-A, BurritoBowl and Sushinara. Classes for the fall semester at UNC begin on Monday, August 15, while off-campus meal plans for students begin on Monday, August 1.
