The North Carolina Department of Transportation will host a public open house meeting on Tuesday, July 10, discussing the future of a major corridor between Chapel Hill and Durham. The session, which will be held at the Friday Center, will allow Chapel Hill and Durham residents to learn about the proposed construction NC DOT envisions for NC 54.

The project is meant to improve the safety and traffic congestion along the state highway, which officials say owns a higher critical crash rate than the state average for highways. The proposed work would focus on the corridor between US 15-501 in Chapel Hill and NC 55 in Durham.

NC DOT states the construction will create accommodations for pedestrians, transit-buses, cyclists and the potential Durham-Orange Light-rail Project.

The open house will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
