Three crashes on I-40 caused major problems for Orange County motorists on Monday afternoon.
I-40 WB near MM 269 (via NCDOT)
All of the crashes were in westbound lanes. One of the accidents happened at Mile Marker 269 shortly after the US 15-501 exit. The left lane was blocked and traffic delays extended to NC-54 in Durham County. In the stop-and-go traffic caused by that accident, a second crash exacerbated the problems by blocking the right lane at Us 15-501.
Another crash also blocked the left lane of Westbound I-40 in Orange County. This crash happened at Mile Marker 261 near Old NC 86. Multiple vehicles were involved.
