Contractors with the North Carolina Department of Transportation are set to close a section of Millhouse Road in Orange County for three weeks.

According to a release from NCDOT, Millhouse Road will be closed from its intersection with New Jericho Road to the cell tower driveway to allow crews to safely conduct bridge repair work. That section of Millhouse Road passes underneath the bridge for Interstate 40. The closure is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 23 at 4 a.m., and the road is expected to reopen to traffic Monday, March 16 at 10 p.m., weather permitting.

While the road is closed, a signed detour will be in place directing motorists around the closure via Eubanks Road and North Carolina Highway 86. NCDOT is asking all drivers to be mindful of construction crews working in the area and to allow extra time to reach their destinations.

Millhouse Road has closed in the past to accommodate work on the I-40 widening project. In 2024, the early road closed nightly as crews worked on the project. Later that year, the road closed entirely along the same stretch (New Jericho Road to the cell tower) for the project.
