RALEIGH – Led the by Planned Parenthood of North Carolina, protesters will gather once again Tuesday to rally against the General Assembly’s efforts to restrict abortion access.

House Bill 695 will be discussed by the House’s Health and Human Services Committee and could potentially be up for a vote later in the day when the full House convenes for session.

The bill, which was passed by the Senate in less than 24 hours last week, would require abortion providers to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgery centers, a move abortion-rights advocates say is designed to shut down providers. Only one clinic in the entire state currently meets those standards.

The demonstration, called Stand with North Carolina Women: STOP HB695!, is set for 9:00 a.m. in Halifax Mall, the same location for the Moral Monday protests. Organizers are calling for attendees to wear pink or purple in support of women’s reproductive rights.

An estimated 600 protesters gathered during the Senate’s deliberation of the bill last Wednesday, including Chapel Hill Town Council Member Sally Greene.
