The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating after the discovery of a dead man on Thursday morning.
An alert shared by the town government at 12:48 p.m. said a Chapel Hill Police officer who was on foot patrol in downtown came across the deceased person in the 300 block of West Franklin Street — which stretches from its intersections with Mallette Street to Kenan Street.
Chapel Hill Police said it was “not immediately clear” what the man’s cause of death was and his body will be turned over to a medical examiner to learn more details.
The police department’s release said an investigation is ongoing and as of Thursday afternoon, no additional information is being made available to the public. West Franklin Street is not closed to any road traffic as the investigation is conducted.
