Police in Carolina Beach on Monday identified the body that washed ashore last Thursday as 69-year-old Thomas James Dickerson of Chapel Hill, multiple outlets in eastern North Carolina reported Monday.

Initial reports said an individual saw the body and pulled it from the surf around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Two North Carolina teenagers recently died after being caught in a rip current at Emerald Isle.

There is no official cause of death for Dickerson at this time. No other details were made available. The investigation is ongoing.
