After investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Monday evening, the Chapel Hill Police Department determined no charges will be issued.

Police responded to a call and arrived at the scene of the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Perkins Drive around 6:30 p.m. The vehicle was traveling north on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and struck the person walking north of Perkins Drive. A spokesperson for the Chapel Hill Police Department said because the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk when the collision occurred, they were later issued a jaywalking citation.

The pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was shortly released from UNC Hospitals after evaluation.

Police cleared up the scene and traffic returned to normal patterns about two hours later. The spokesperson reminded Chapel Hill residents to always use provided crosswalks, especially at night.

A release from the Town of Chapel Hill Monday evening said the police department was investigating the incident.
