A GoFundMe site has been established to support the family of local musician Tim Carless, who died earlier this month after a short battle with esophageal cancer.
Born in England in 1966 “on the day that The Beatles recorded ‘I’m Only Sleeping’,” Carless was a professional musician all his life, performing with artists like Paul McCartney and Wreckless Eric before moving to Chapel Hill in 2006. Most recently, Carless played regularly at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, writing and performing live scores to classic silent films. He also recently released two singles from a forthcoming album.
Just 55 years old when he died on Monday, June 14, Carless leaves behind a family including daughters Pema and Seraphina.
The ArtsCenter in Carrboro was set to host Carless for a series of shows in the near future. In a statement, the organization said Carless was a “generous spirit.”
All of us at The ArtsCenter are deeply saddened by the passing of Tim Carless. Tim was a longtime friend and collaborator of The ArtsCenter who was known for his generous spirit and his live-scorings of classic films. He was a mainstay of our annual performance season, and performed pay-what-you-can streaming shows during the COVID-19 pandemic, graciously providing much-needed accessible and safe family entertainment for our community. Archives of his streamed performances can be found on The ArtsCenter’s YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/theartscenterlive). Please consider making a gift to the Tim Carless Memorial fund organized by Emmaus Way to support his daughters.
