Chapel Hill resident Anne Gibson Hill died Thursday at age 84 after several weeks of illness.

Born in 1930 in Huntington, West Virginia, Hill graduated from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond in 1952.

She was the widow of George Watts Hill Sr. Together they founded the Hill Learning Development Center in Durham in 1977.

The center specializes in educating children with learning disabilities and trains teachers to recognize learning disabilities and adapt their teaching to fit a range of learning styles.

The academic program serves students from more than 70 local schools each year, and the center has trained more than 12,000 teachers from North Carolina and beyond.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Walker’s Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.

Services will be held at The Chapel of the Cross on Sunday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Hill Center in Durham. You can learn more here.
