As the CommunityWorx buildings at 117 and 125 West Main Street continue to go through the foreclosure process, the prospective buyer with whom the nonprofit has reached an agreement is now public.

The Carrboro-based organization shared Friday it has reached an agreement with fellow nonprofit Shared Visions Foundation to purchase the parcel of land and allow CommunityWorx to continue its operations in each building. The reveal comes after CommunityWorx CEO Barbara Jessie-Black told Chapelboro and partners of the nonprofit struck a deal to sell the property in October.

Shared Visions Foundation is based in Durham and was founded by Jay Miller in 2002. Its website describes its goals is to assist nonprofit agencies working in the areas of health and human services and cultural arts, chiefly through providing grants to different nonprofits to increase their capacity in providing resources to their patrons. Most of Shared Visions’ work is rooted in Orange and Durham counties, but it began branching out to international causes in 2023 — and CommunityWorx said Miller has experience as a landlord to other nonprofit organizations.

“We are privileged to have Shared Visions as a collaborator in this effort to empower CommunityWorx’s mission,” read Friday’s statement, “and consider Jay an ally in our work with underestimated communities, due to his involvement as a board member of one of our long-time community partners, Inter-Faith Council for Social Service.”

CommunityWorx said while the sale is in progress, it will only be completed once it finishes raising $120,000 to cover the closing costs. Additionally, Jessie-Black told Chapelboro the next court hearing as part of the foreclosure proceedings is set for early December, which is when the sale agreement can be formalized.
