Utility work is taking place along Estes Drive in front of University Place mall in Chapel Hill and is expected to be in place for several weeks.
Crews have been setting up in the mall parking lot over the last two weeks preparing to begin the work.
Mall management officials said in an email that the work is expected to continue throughout much of the summer. A large staging area surrounded by a fence has been established in the mall parking lot.
PSNC Energy is replacing 1.5 miles of an existing pipeline in Chapel Hill, according to its website.
“The new pipeline will be installed within the current PSNC Energy right-of-way east of the intersection of Estes Drive and Somerset Drive, and will follow Estes Drive until its intersection with Fordham Boulevard.”
The company said the work is expected to “be complete and in service by the end of the summer.”
