The Town of Chapel Hill has partnered with Kramden Institute to hold a collection of old electronics, creating an easier way to dispose of them.
On Saturday, members of the public can donate electronic items to Kramden, which will then refurbish reusable items and recycle the rest. The institute will then distribute refurbished electronics to families in need, preventing the items from ending up in landfills.
The drop-off location for the electronics is in the University Place parking lot behind Silverspot Cinema off Willow Drive. Items will be taken from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and any donations are tax deductible. Acceptable electronics include desktop computers, laptops, cellphones, tablets and servers. They’ll also take mice, keyboards, hard drives, RAM, flash drives, power cords and more.
The institute requests people to not bring printers, scanners, stereo speakers or household appliances.
The Kramden Institute is a tech non-profit based out of Durham. Since being created in 2003, the organization has given more than 30,000 computers to students and provided education programs to more than 3,000 people. They have donated electronics to people in 81 of North Carolina’s 100 counties.
