The Town of Chapel Hill is soliciting applications from residents to participate in an assessment of candidates in the search for a new town manager.
Town officials said in a release that manager candidates will be placed in “simulated scenarios a town manager will face” as part of the interview process. And the Town Council passed a resolution to approve the process to recruit “four to six community members to serve as assessors during the two-day assessment center” evaluation of candidates.
Assessors will observe the candidate’s scenario and then “report back to a review committee where the information is analyzed and a recommendation made about the candidates moving to the next step in the hiring process,” according to the town.
The candidates will go through the assessment center process on May 31 and June 1, 2018, as a supplement to other application materials submitted to fill the position. Current town manager Roger Stancil has announced that he will be retiring in the fall, after staying on to help with the transition to a new manager.
Any Chapel Hill residents can apply for the open assessor positions, but town employees are not eligible to participate. Those hoping to participate must be available to serve on May 31 and June 1.
Applications can be submitted online through noon on Monday, April 16. The Town Council is scheduled to make the appointments at a meeting on May 2.
