A UNC graduate has been chosen to fill the role of national security adviser under President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press is reporting Trump chose Army Lt. Gen. HR McMcaster to fill the post left vacant after the resignation of Michael Flynn.
McMaster holds a PhD in military history from UNC.
Flynn’s short tenure as national security adviser was brought to an abrupt end after revelations he was in contact with the Russian ambassador as then-President Barack Obama was preparing to announce sanctions against some in the Russian administration.
Trump announced McMaster’s selection as at his Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago, on Monday, calling McMaster, “a man of tremendous talent and tremendous experience,” according to the AP.
