Orange County Animal Services has received a $20,000 grant from the non-profit Petco Love, which will be used to assist with spay and neuter programs. The grant, described as “lifesaving” by OCAS, will also be used to support shelter initiatives which prevent overpopulation.

“We are excited to receive this grant,” said OCAS assistant director Tiani Stamey. “We are grateful for Petco Love’s generous support in this vital mission.”

Founded in 1999, Petco Love has donated nearly $400 million in similar efforts around the country. That includes a $25,000 grant to Orange County Animal Services last summer, which was used to support shelter animal veterinary care and other community programs. The organization has donated more than $15 million this year.

“Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us,” said Petco Love president Susanne Kogut.

OCAS is also in the middle of an “Empty the Shelters” adoption special, which runs through July 31. During the special, sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation, fees for most cats and dogs are reduced to $50. OCAS is located at 1601 Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill.
