This week is a light one for local government, with all three Orange County town boards taking the week off. But there are still several key agenda items up for discussion: most notably, a discussion of possible economic incentives for Morinaga to expand its large manufacturing facility in western Orange County – and in Chatham County, a continuation of an ongoing discussion about merging county utility services with TriRiver.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Tuesday, September 17, at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. Tops on their agenda: a public hearing on a proposed incentives package for the expansion of Morinaga’s Hi-Chew manufacturing facility near Mebane. Commissioners will also discuss the use of funding from the national opioid settlement, and vote on a contract to design a new crisis diversion facility for the county. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 19, with a light agenda that includes a look ahead at next week’s joint meeting (set for September 26) with Orange County Commissioners and the Orange County School Board. Get the full agenda at this link.
Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet on Monday, September 16. After a 2 p.m. work session that includes a presentation on next year’s property revaluation, the board will reconvene for their regular meeting at 6 p.m., with an agenda that includes an update on a proposed utility merger with TriRiver.
