We’re back! Local governments are back in full swing after their summer breaks; the bigger agenda items will come later this fall, but there are still some key issues to discuss this week – including in Carrboro, where the town board will examine the impact of Tropical Depression Chantal, and in the schools, where CHCCS superintendent Rodney Trice will ask his school board for additional support for new teachers.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Carrboro Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 16. Council members will get an update on the town’s response to Tropical Depression Chantal, including the impact on Carrboro’s budget. Click here for the full agenda.
Orange County Commissioners also meet Tuesday, September 16, starting at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. Commissioners will receive a presentation on efforts to implement the county’s strategic plan, and they’ll consider an update to their agreement with the company Lumos to extend broadband to rural Orange County. Get the full agenda here.
The Chapel Hill Town Council meets Wednesday, September 17, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Public Library. Their agenda appears to be a light one, with only one item: council members will discuss the process of evaluating the town manager. Get a link to the agenda here.
And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 18. Board members will get financial reports from the last quarter, and superintendent Rodney Trice will ask for approval of a plan to support beginning teachers in the first three years of their careers. Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet Monday, September 15, starting with a 2 p.m. work session and continuing with their regular meeting at 6:00. Click here for a link to the agenda, which includes a rezoning proposal in Bear Creek and a request for additional support for early childhood programs in the county.
Finally, the Durham City Council meets twice this week, at 7 p.m. Monday, September 15 and at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 18. Monday’s agenda is a lighter one, with a pair of appointments to the Durham Housing Authority; Thursday’s work session includes an audit from the previous fiscal year and an update on funds from the national opioid settlement.
