We’re getting closer to Election Day, which will bring some turnover on local elected boards – but the current boards still have quite a bit of work to do. In Carrboro this week, the Town Council will ask for public feedback on a proposed Downtown Area Plan; meanwhile in Chapel Hill, the Town Council will consider a pair of development proposals that would bring roughly 250 combined housing units.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

The Carrboro Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 21. This week’s agenda includes a public hearing on the latest draft of a Downtown Area Plan; the council will also get a financial report from the last fiscal year and seek public feedback on a draft application for federal Community Development Block Grant funds. Orange County Commissioners also meet Tuesday, October 21, at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. Commissioners will get updates on property tax revaluation appeals and efforts to extend broadband to rural Orange County; they’ll also discuss the latest draft of an interlocal agreement on future school construction. The Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 22. This week’s agenda includes a pair of development proposals: one that would build 76 townhomes along Old Chapel Hill Road near Lakeview Drive, and another to build Phase III of Carraway Village off Eubanks Road, with up to 170 new housing units. Council members will also seek public feedback on some proposed changes to the town’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO); and they’ll discuss the 10 applications they received from residents to serve out the remaining month of Karen Stegman’s term, which expires in early December. Stegman stepped down over the summer when she moved outside town limits. Click here for a link to the agenda.

And the Orange County Board of Education meets Monday, October 20, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Click here for the full agenda, which includes a work session on new enrollment numbers and the district’s five-year strategic plan.

Chatham and Durham Counties

Chatham County Commissioners meet Monday, October 20, beginning with a 1 p.m. work session and continuing with their regular meeting at 6:00. The work session will include a budget update and a report on the impact of Tropical Storm Chantal; the regular meeting will include a discussion of the proposed Vickers Village development off Jack Bennett Road.
