This week, the Carrboro Town Council will get the results of a community engagement study on the future of the Bolin Creek Greenway; the Chapel Hill Town Council discusses their ongoing LUMO rewrite effort; and Orange County Commissioners hear from the public on a COVID-era housing assistance program. Meanwhile in Durham, the City Council is getting ready to adopt a new comprehensive plan, while in Chatham, county commissioners are moving forward on plans for the future of Moncure.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Tuesday, October 17, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough. Commissioners will get public input on a COVID-era emergency housing assistance program, which is winding down; they’ll also consider increasing the pay for Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board members. The Carrboro Town Council also meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 17. Council members will get the results of public comment on the upcoming Phases 3 and 4 of the Bolin Creek Greenway, as well as a new resolution updating the plan in light of that feedback. Click here for a link to the agenda.
The Chapel Hill Town Council meets Wednesday, October 18, in the Chapel Hill Public Library. After a closed session at 5:30 to discuss a personnel matter, the council will convene in open session at 7:00. This week’s agenda features a work session on the ongoing effort to rewrite the town’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO). Get the complete agenda here.
And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board meets Thursday, October 19, at 6 p.m. in Lincoln Center. Board members will vote on an initial budget resolution for this year and discuss possible revisions to the district’s strategic plan; they’ll also hear a report on the district’s sustainability efforts from the previous school year. Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet on Monday, October 16, in the Agriculture & Conference Center in Pittsboro. Their day begins at 2:30, with a work session that includes a budget update, reports from the county’s library and parks & recreation advisory committees, and an update on climate change mitigation efforts. Then the board will reconvene at 6:00 for a regular meeting that includes a possible vote on the Plan Moncure Small Area Plan, guiding the future of the area around the new VinFast electric vehicle plant. And the Durham City Council meets twice this week – first at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 16, then at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 19. Monday’s meeting features a public hearing on a text amendment to the city’s Unified Development Ordinance, to bring it in line with Durham’s anticipated new comprehensive plan – which the council is slated to adopt at Thursday’s work session.
