Housing tops the agenda this week in Chapel Hill, where the Town Council will discuss three large proposals – most notably St. Paul Village, proposed on Purefoy Road near Fordham Boulevard. In addition, Carrboro leaders will discuss financial planning, Orange County Commissioners will meet jointly with local fire chiefs, and Durham officials will hear a request for local funding from the county’s crisis response center.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Carrboro Town Council is holding a work session Tuesday, October 10, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Their agenda has only one item: council members will hear from the town’s financial advisors as they present a draft of a planning model they’re developing to help staff evaluate “the financial impact of operating and capital planning programs.” Click here for a link to the full agenda.
Orange County Commissioners also meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 10. Commissioners will meet jointly with the Orange County Chiefs’ Association to discuss issues relating to firefighting; they’ll also discuss various board appointments and community engagement for the future of the Greene Tract. And the Chapel Hill Town Council meets Wednesday, October 11, also at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Tops on the agenda: council members will consider a zoning application for the proposed St. Paul Village on Purefoy Drive, which has been in the works for several years. They’ll also open legislative hearings for two other proposed housing developments – Gateway on Lakeview Drive off 15/501, and Hillmont on Stancell Drive near Meadowmont – which would each add more than 300 rental housing units. (The Gateway project could include some for-sale townhomes as well.) Get the full agenda here.
Chatham and Durham Counties
Durham city and county committees are meeting jointly on Tuesday, October 10, at 9 a.m. in City Hall. Attendees will discuss rental assistance funding and Durham’s crisis response center for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. (Officials there are asking for $250,000 in additional local funding to help offset cuts at the federal level.) Click here for the full agenda.
Finally the Durham school board is holding a work session at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 12. A link to their agenda is available here.
