Many elected boards avoid scheduling meetings on Election Week, so it’s no surprise that this week is a relatively light one for local government. Still, there are a few key agenda items, ranging from long-range transit plans in Durham to racial equity in Orange County Schools.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Only two meetings this week in Orange County, both in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough. First, the Orange County School Board meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 7, with an agenda that includes a discussion of recommendations from the district’s Equity Task Force. Then, Orange County Commissioners hold a work session at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 10. On their agenda: commissioners will hear an update from the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness, and they’ll discuss a report on local food access.

Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet on Monday, November 7, in the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center. After a work session at 2 p.m., the board will reconvene for their regular meeting at 6:00, with a light agenda that includes a discussion of the county’s capital improvements plan for the rest of the decade. Get the full agenda at this link.
Durham County Commissioners also meet on Monday, November 7, with a work session starting at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers. Commissioners will hear a proposal from The Justice Movement on how to reduce violence and poverty in Durham; they’ll get an update on plans to develop a new county comprehensive plan; and they’ll hear a pair of presentations on transit, both for Durham County and for the larger Durham-Orange region. Get the full agenda here.
Finally, the Durham City Council meets twice this week: at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 7, and then again at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 10. Both meetings have relatively light agendas, but Thursday’s meeting will include a discussion of redistricting for Council wards. Get links to both agendas here.
