With Election Day on the calendar, it’s a lighter week for local government as several elected boards are taking the week off. But there are still several meetings on the docket with important agenda items: Orange County Commissioners will tackle safety concerns for kids traveling to school; the CHCCS board of education will discuss the district’s school reassignment policy; and Chatham County Commissioners will take a final vote on a plan to merge the county’s water/sewer system with Sanford.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Thursday, November 7, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Commissioners will discuss the county’s Safe Route to School plan and receive an update on the impact of new guidelines for emergency housing assistance. Get the full agenda at this link.
The Orange County school board has a work session Monday, November 4, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Click here for the full agenda, which includes a finance audit report and a review of start-of-year data.
And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board also meets this week, in the Lincoln Center at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7. The board’s agenda includes a budget resolution, a work session on last year’s student outcomes, and an initial discussion of proposed changes to the district’s school-reassignment policy. Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet on Monday, November 4, starting with a 2 p.m. work session on the county’s Unified Development Ordinance. After that work session, the board will reconvene for their regular meeting at 6 p.m., with an agenda that includes a presentation on a 6-year capital improvement plan and a final vote to approve a water/sewer system merger with Sanford. Durham County Commissioners also meet on Monday, November 4, starting at 9 a.m. On the agenda: commissioners will hear presentations on sustainable decision-making, transit spending, capital improvement, the use of federal COVID relief funds, and the process of declaring local emergencies. The Durham City Council has two meetings scheduled this week, at 7 p.m. Monday, November 4, and at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 7. Click here for links to both agendas, which include public hearings on development proposals.
Finally, the Durham school board is scheduled to hold a work session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, November 7. Their agenda has not yet been released, but will be available at this link.
