With Election Day on Tuesday, this week’s local government agenda is a light one – especially in Orange County, with only two scheduled meetings. There are still a number of big-ticket items for discussion this week, though: Orange County Commissioners will consider a housing proposal north of Hillsborough; Chatham County Commissioners will consider an even larger housing plan north of Pittsboro; and Durham County Commissioners will discuss future plans for bus rapid transit.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

Orange County Commissioners meet Thursday, November 6, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Click here for this week’s agenda, which includes a zoning application for a 49-lot subdivision on 78 acres off NC-86 north of Hillsborough.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board is also slated to meet Thursday, November 6, beginning at 6 p.m. The agenda will be available at this link.

Chatham and Durham Counties

Chatham County Commissioners meets Monday, November 3, starting at 4 p.m. in the Pittsboro courthouse. The meeting begins with a work session that includes a presentation on transportation from MoveChatham and a resolution supporting a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Citizens United case. Then the board reconvenes at 6 p.m. for their regular meeting, with an agenda that includes a presentation on upcoming capital improvement plans and a vote on the proposed Vickers Village housing development off Jack Bennett Road. The Chatham County school board meets at 6 p.m. Monday, November 3. Click here for the full agenda, which includes a budget amendment, improvement plans from each of the district’s schools, and a presentation on a new state law requiring schools to post their entire library catalog online and allow parents to ban their children from checking out certain books.

The Durham City Council meets twice this week, at 7 p.m. Monday, November 3, and again at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 6. Monday’s agenda is light, with appointments to a pair of city boards; Thursday’s agenda includes an annual report from Durham Parks & Recreation and a presentation on the resiliency of the city’s water system. Durham County Commissioners have a work session at 9 a.m. Monday, November 3. Commissioners will discuss future capital improvement, plans for bus rapid transit, and a proposed trail along a Durham-to-Roxboro rail line. Read the full agenda here.
