This week is a busy one for the Chapel Hill Town Council, with two meetings in a three-day stretch and packed agendas for both. Beyond that, most local government boards have lighter agendas – but Orange County Commissioners will continue their discussion of school safety, and the Carrboro Town Council will keep tackling affordable housing.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Chapel Hill Town Council has meetings scheduled on Monday and Wednesday. On the agenda: the council will get an update on the town’s five-year budget strategy; they’ll hear a presentation on stormwater regulations; and they’ll work to develop a master plan for replacing Chapel Hill fire stations.
Then on Wednesday, November 16, the Town Council will reconvene at 7 p.m. in Town Hall, with a long agenda that includes a request to increase funding for construction of the Rosemary Street parking garage, a proposed funding plan for affordable housing, and a possible affordable-housing amendment to the town’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO). Council members will also hear a resident’s request to turn the entire former American Legion property into a public park, and they’ll appoint UNC student Cortland Gilliam as the town’s next poet laureate.
