This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro to help inform our community about local government meetings. All meeting days, locations and times may be subject to change. Check town, county, and school district websites for additional information.

Budget season continues this week in local government, as Orange and Chatham Commissioners both gather for budget work sessions and Durham City Manager Wanda Page offers her own budget presentation. But local government boards also have other issues on their plates – including a development proposal in Carrboro and an update on the “Complete Community” initiative in Chapel Hill.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

Orange County Commissioners meet twice this week. Their regular meeting is Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center, with an agenda that includes a discussion of next year’s action plan and capital funding for the Orange County School district. Then the board will reconvene for a budget work session Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Click here for links to both agendas.

The Carrboro Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. Their agenda features a public hearing on a plan for a three-story residential development at 400 North Greensboro Street. Get a link to the full agenda here.

The Chapel Hill Town Council meets Wednesday, May 22, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Public Library. Council members will get an update on how the town is implementing the Complete Community initiative and an overview of ongoing projects for Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation. And the Orange County School Board meets Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building, with an agenda that includes a discussion of meals for students this summer and next school year. Click here for the full agenda.

Chatham and Durham Counties

Chatham County Commissioners have several meetings scheduled this week. Their first is in Pittsboro Monday, May 20, starting with a work session at 3 p.m. (to receive a budget update) and continuing at 6 p.m. with a regular meeting that includes a public hearing on next year’s budget. Commissioners will also hold a public budget hearing Tuesday, May 21, at 6 p.m. in Siler City. They also have budget work sessions tentatively scheduled for Thursday and Friday, May 23-24. The Durham City Council also has multiple meetings this week. Their first is at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20, featuring a presentation from City Manager Wanda Page on next year’s budget and a five-year capital improvement plan. Then, the Town Council will reconvene for a public hearing on the budget at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23. Click here for agendas to both meetings.
