Many town and county boards take the last week of the month off, so this week is a light one for local government activity. Topping the agenda, the Hillsborough town board will hear a presentation on future plans for US-70 through Orange County; they’ll also consider amending the town code in response to recent complaints about residents not cleaning up after their dogs in town cemeteries.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. Monday, March 25. Tops on the agenda: town board members will receive a presentation on the US-70 multimodal corridor plan, which will guide long-term planning along Route 70 between Durham and Mebane with an emphasis on public transit and bicycle and pedestrian safety. In addition, the board will also discuss their legislative agenda for the General Assembly in 2024 – including affordable housing, transit, environmental sustainability, and increased authority for towns and counties. And board members will consider updating the town’s “disruptive activity” ordinance, in response to recent complaints about residents letting their dogs run around in town cemeteries and not cleaning up their waste. Durham County Commissioners also meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 25. Commissioners will receive a presentation on the county’s finances, following an annual audit from the 2023 fiscal year. Get the full agenda at this link.

Finally, Chatham County Commissioners will hold a budget work session at 9 a.m. Friday, March 29, in the historic courthouse in Pittsboro. The agenda will be available at this link.
