This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro to help inform our community about local government meetings. All meeting days, locations and times may be subject to change. Check town, county, and school district websites for additional information.

Local government season is beginning to wind down for the summer, but there are still a few big agenda items left to address. In Carrboro, the town council will consider rezoning land on Homestead Road for increased housing density; they’ll also get new traffic-stop data from Carrboro police, with an emphasis on racial disparities. And in Pittsboro, the town will get public feedback on a possible merger of the town’s water and sewer systems with Sanford.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners is holding a work session Monday, June 26, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall Annex. Board members will get an update and discuss the town’s strategic plan for the next three fiscal years. Click here for the full agenda.

The Carrboro Town Council meets in Town Hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 27. Tops on the agenda: council members will hear from the public and possibly vote on a plan to rezone land along Homestead Road for a new subdivision with 27 single-family homes and 15 triplex units. (The rezoning would allow for greater density: current regulations allow only 20 single-family homes to be built on the property, and no triplexes.) The council will also receive an equity report from Carrboro police, with demographic data on traffic stops. Click here for a link to the full agenda.

The Orange County School Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the Whitted Building in Hillsborough. Board members will get an update on end-of-year assessments as well as data from a survey on teacher working conditions. Get the full agenda at this link. (UPDATE: The board meeting was canceled Monday night in advance of severe weather.)

Finally in Chatham County, the Pittsboro Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center. This week’s top agenda item is a public hearing on the possible merger of Pittsboro’s water and wastewater systems with the city of Sanford. Get the full agenda at this link.
