With the holiday break drawing closer, it’s a lighter week in local government – but there are still a few key items on this week’s agendas. In Hillsborough, the town board will consider its support for various organizations through its Community Re-Investment program. Orange County Commissioners will make decisions on how to allocate the county’s climate-action grant. And in Durham, county commissioners will consider shuffling federal COVID relief funds to cover various community needs.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. Monday, December 9. This week, commissioners will review the town’s Community Re-Investment program, which involves dues and related funds provided by the town to organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and the Hillsborough Arts Council. Orange County Commissioners meet Tuesday, December 10, at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. This week’s agenda includes a public hearing on a 5-year plan for housing and community development; a decision on which projects to fund with the county’s Community Climate Action Grant; and a data report from the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness. And the Orange County Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Monday, December 9. The board will consider urging the General Assembly to raise pay for staffers, address a transit issue from an earlier reassignment decision, and hold work sessions on air quality, Orange County’s Safe Routes to School Plan, and the district’s Exceptional Children program. Chatham and Durham Counties
The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners meets at 6 p.m. Monday, December 9. Commissioners will receive a downtown parking study and continue their discussion of the town’s climate action plan. Click here for the full agenda.
The Chatham County school board also meets Monday, December 9, beginning at 5:30. Click here for their agenda, which includes a vote on HVAC updates to six schools.
And Durham County Commissioners also meet on Monday, December 9. After a closed-session meeting at 5:30, the board will reconvene in open session at 7:00, with an agenda that includes a discussion of shifting COVID relief funds to increase support for childcare subsidies, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, and a water/sewer project on Slater Road.
