With Christmas and New Year’s Day approaching, it’s a light week in local government, but there are a handful of meetings scheduled this week before every board goes on its holiday break. Chatham County Commissioners will receive a handful of presentations and annual reports; the Durham City Council will address bow hunting for deer; and in Chapel Hill, the Town Council is slated to meet twice this week – but only in closed session, to begin the process of finding a new town manager.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
The Chapel Hill Town Council will meet in closed session on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 17-18, to discuss the search for a new town manager.
Chatham County Commissioners meet on Monday, December 16, in the historic courthouse in Pittsboro. Their meeting begins with a 2 p.m. work session, where commissioners will receive last year’s financial audit and presentations on climate change, agriculture, aging, and the process of establishing a domestic violence shelter. Then commissioners will reconvene at 6 p.m. for their regular session, with an agenda that includes a presentation on the State of Chatham County and a vote on a new countywide Digital Inclusion Plan. In Durham, the City Council meets twice this week: first at 7 p.m. Monday, December 16, and then again at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 19. Monday’s meeting includes a public hearing and a possible vote on a proposal to rename Vivian Street after former mayor Bill Bell; Thursday’s meeting includes a pair of advisory board appointments and a possible revision to the county’s deer bow hunting ordinance. Finally, the Durham school board meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19. Their agenda has not yet been posted, but will be available at this link.
