This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro to help inform our community about local government meetings. All meeting days, locations and times may be subject to change. Check town, county, and school district websites for additional information.

This week is a light one in local government, with only one open-session meeting in Orange County. There are still some key items on the agenda, though: Hillsborough commissioners will hear from the town’s water & sewer advisory committee; Durham elected officials will consider a new city-wide comprehensive plan; and Pittsboro leaders will discuss a possible downtown “social district.”

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

This week’s only open-session meeting is on Monday, August 28: the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners are holding a work session at 7 p.m. The board will receive a presentation on the system development fee and hear recommendations from the town’s Water & Sewer Advisory Committee. The Chapel Hill and Carrboro Town Councils each meet this week as well, but both meetings are in closed session to discuss personnel matters. Chapel Hill’s meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 29; Carrboro’s meeting is at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 31.

Chatham and Durham Counties

The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. Monday, August 28. Commissioners will discuss (but not vote on) a proposal to establish a “social district” for alcohol consumption downtown, and they’ll hear from the public (and possibly vote) on an amendment to the Chatham Park North Village Small Area Plan. In Durham, county commissioners meet twice this week. First, the board will hold its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, August 28, with a light agenda that includes appointments to various county boards and commissions. Get the full agenda at this link.

Then on Thursday, August 31, county commissioners will meet jointly with the Durham City Council at 7 p.m., for a public hearing and a possible vote on a new comprehensive plan for the city. Click here for the full agenda and a link to the proposal.
