Many local government boards skip meeting on the last week of a month or the first week of a month; this week happens to be both, so the schedule is light. But local officials are still tackling important issues – most notably in Chapel Hill, where town manager Chris Blue will present his budget recommendation to the Town Council.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet for a work session Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. Commissioners will hear from a consultant on the county’s long-term land use plan; they’ll receive a presentation on a management services agreement for the Piedmont Food Processing Center; and they’ll consider appointments to various county boards and commissions. The Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. Town manager Chris Blue will present his recommended budget for next year: a $156 million budget, up 4 percent from the previous year, with a 6 percent pay increase for town employees and a proposed 2-cent property tax increase as part of a five-year strategy. In addition to the budget proposal, the council will also consider amending the stormwater management requirements in the town’s land use management ordinance. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board meets in the Lincoln Center at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2. Board members will consider a memorandum of understanding for school resource officers (SROs) in the coming year, and they’ll discuss the final report of an assessment of high school daily schedules. Chatham and Durham Counties
The Durham County Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, with a light agenda that includes new appointments to various county boards and commissions. Get the full agenda here.
