The five candidates who filed to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners will be interviewed by the current board during a public meeting Monday night.
Longtime board member Brian Lowen announced earlier this year that he would be resigning his seat on the board. The town board decided earlier this month to interview all of the applicants for the open seat. Initially, six applications were filed but one applicant withdrew from consideration.
The applicants scheduled to be interviewed on Monday night are Bill Harris, Matt Hughes, Anna Linvill, James Schweitzer and Scott Taylor.
The interviews will be held at the Town Barn beginning at 7 p.m. and will take place with 30-minute time limits. A half-hour public comment session regarding the candidates will take place following the interviews.
If the board feels as though it has enough information to make a decision, a selection could be made at the March 12 meeting. But the board could also call a special meeting on March 5 to hold a second round of interviews, if needed.
Public comment can also be submitted online. The public can also view the candidate applications through the town’s website.
Lowen’s resignation is effective March 26. The seat will be up for election in November 2019.
The commissioners will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday to consider any material unrelated to the commissioner applications.
