The field of candidates who applied for the vacancy on the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners has dwindled.

Six candidates initially filed to fill the vacancy, but one candidate withdrew their application on Tuesday morning. The five remaining candidates are Bill Harris, Matt Hughes, Anna Linvill, James Schweitzer and Scott Taylor. The deadline for applications closed Sunday, February 11.

Longtime board member Brian Lowen announced earlier this year that he would be resigning his seat on the board. The town board decided at Monday’s meeting to interview all of the applicants for the open seat.

The interviews and public comment period will be taking place during a work session later this month. Interviews will begin at seven o’clock on February 26 with 30-minute time limits. A half-hour public comment period will follow the interviews.

The board is planning to decide on an applicant to fill the seat at its meeting on March 12. Lowen’s resignation is effective March 26. The seat is up for election in December 2019.
