Budget season continues for town and county government, with several boards set to hold their final budget votes this week. In Carrboro, meanwhile, the Town Council is set to take a vote with even longer-lasting ramifications, potentially signing off on a comprehensive plan to govern the town for the next two decades.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

The Carrboro Town Council meets Tuesday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Newly elected Council Member Eliazar Posada will be sworn in, then the Council will tackle a busy agenda – culminating with a vote to adopt the “Carrboro Connects” comprehensive plan that will guide town planning for the next 20 years. In addition, the Council will also hear from the public on next year’s budget and consider issuing a Special Use Permit to allow the ArtsCenter to move to a new building on Roberson Street. Orange County Commissioners also meet on Tuesday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough, with an agenda that includes a discussion of the county’s manufactured homes action plan. County commissioners will also hold a budget work session on Thursday, June 9, also in the Whitted Building at 7 p.m. Click here for links to both agendas.

The Chapel Hill Town Council meets virtually on Wednesday, June 8, at 7 p.m. Council members are slated to vote on Town Manager Maurice Jones’ budget proposal for next year. Get the full agenda here.

And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board has called a special meeting for Thursday, June 9, virtually beginning at 6 p.m. The agenda for that meeting will be posted here.

Chatham and Durham Counties

Monday, June 6, is the day for local government meetings in Chatham County: county commissioners meet at 1 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse in Pittsboro, then the Chatham County School Board meets at 5:30 at George Moses Horton Middle School. Both boards have light agendas this week, though county commissioners will discuss their unified development ordinance and small area plan.
