Cliff Turner has been chosen as the new director of human resource development for the Town of Chapel Hill.

Turner’s appointment was announced Wednesday by town manager Roger Stancil.

Turner most recently served as the assistant director of the department, according to town officials. Turner has been with the town since 2009.

“I conducted a nationwide search for a new director and an intensive assessment process,” Stancil said. “Cliff came out on top.  His appointment emphasizes our focus on developing talent from within.”

Turner has worked in human resources at UNC as served as a deputy sheriff in Orange County prior to working with the town.

The town has approximately 700 employees.

Turner is replacing Frances Russell, who is retiring in October.
