Orange County has named Quintana Stewart as the county’s new health director.
Stewart comes to Orange County with more than 16 years of public health experience in various roles at the Forsyth County Department of Public Health. Stewart is succeeding Dr. Colleen Bridger, who resigned in February 2017 to take a similar post in San Antonio, Texas.
Chair of the Orange County Board of Health Liska Lackey issued the following statement regarding the new hire following a nationwide search.
“Ms. Stewart’s experience in public health leadership will allow the Health Department to continue to serve our community with excellence. As we look to the future, her passion for innovation and equity will guide us in our mission to enhance the quality of life, promote the health, and preserve the environment for all people in Orange County.”
Stewart earned a bachelor’s degree in public health from UNC – Greensboro before attending UNC – Pembroke and earning her master’s degree in public administration.
She most recently was appointed to serve as assistant health director in Forsyth County in 2013.
“The Orange County Health Department has proven to be a department that nurtures and encourages innovators,” Stewart said in a release announcing the hire. “I took the position because I want to work with a team of innovators that share my passion and purpose for developing healthy communities.”
Stewart will begin in her new role on December 18.
