Early voting gets underway in Orange County and across North Carolina Wednesday morning.
New state law sets weekday hours during the early voting period from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. at each early voting location, of which there are five in Orange County. All five sites will be open uniform hours, under the new law, including from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Sundays. This is the first election cycle where Sunday voting will be allowed in Orange County.
Early voting locations are consistent with recent elections in Orange County – the Board of Elections office in Hillsborough, Carrboro Town Hall, Chapel of the Cross near the UNC campus, the Seymour Center and Efland Ruritan Club.
Orange County voters will be choosing a representative for District 4 of the United States House of Representatives, members of the state house and senate and the soil and water conservation district supervisor.
Elections for county commissioners, district attorney, clerk of court, register of deeds and sheriff are on the ballot but only one candidate remains after the Democratic primaries this spring.
One seat on the state Supreme Court, three seats on the North Carolina Court of Appeals are on the ballot as well as a district court seat.
There are six Constitutional amendments on the statewide ballot. Chapel Hill voters are also choosing whether to approve a $10 million affordable housing bond.
