Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged a Hillsborough man on Thursday in a connection to a recent home invasion.
A release from the office on Friday said 48-year-old Robert Maples faces eight felony charges and one misdemeanor based on his alleged attack of a woman on Crawford Road — which is just east of the Hillsborough town limits.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim returned home after running an errand and found a white male wearing all black clothing and a ski mask waiting for her in the residence. He had gathered items from inside and, once the victim arrived, he took her debit card and demanded her bank information through threats. The suspect left by driving the victim’s vehicle.
From there, sheriff’s investigators said a man wearing the same clothing as described the victim was seen at a nearby ATM withdrawing money from the woman’s account. The vehicle was found later on July 7 and was processed for evidence.
The full list of charges Maples faces are: first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, financial card theft, identity theft, obtaining property by false pretenses, and communicating threats.

Maples posted his $2,500 bond after being arrested and taken to the Orange County Detention Center on Thursday. But the sheriff’s office said after appearing in court on the charges Friday, the judge determined Maples’ criminal history required his bond to be raised further to $75,000. Maples was taken back into custody and is set to appear in court on the charges again on Monday.
