The Orange Water and Sewer Authority announced it is taking steps to mitigate any potential spread of COVID-19 in the community.

The service agency for Chapel Hill and Carrboro said on Thursday it has temporary suspended all disconnects from water services that were done over the non-payment of bills. A spokesperson for OWASA said the decision was made to help the public health of the community.

“At this time, everyone across our community needs access to clean, running water in an effort to help protect the community and mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” says a statement shared by the service agency. “We will continue to monitor the situation moving forward.”

OWASA also said it is encouraging its customer to utilize digital payment options as much as possible. The method would decrease how many people are paying in-person at the administrative office. Options to remotely pay include over the phone, online or through the drop-box in the front of the office on Jones Ferry Road.

Any details about services or further updates can be found on OWASA’s website.
