A fast casual Indian restaurant is making its way from the west coast to the Triangle.

Curry Up Now — which is a restaurant founded in San Francisco in 2009 by a husband-and-wife duo — is expanding to North Carolina by opening two locations in Chapel Hill and Durham.  The restaurant shared the news with a release on Monday, saying two new franchises are the first of five set for the area and will be run by VAAP Management, which also operates Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins franchises.

“We’ve been excited about bringing the explosive Indian flavors that Curry Up Now is known for to the area, and now we have two prime locations to do exactly that,” said VAAP Management member and franchisee Pathik Patel. “This area is so diverse and so passionate about new flavors and concepts. We have no doubts that Curry Up Now is going to take North Carolina by storm.”

The Durham location of the Indian restaurant is set to open first, with a target date of summertime. Curry Up Now will move into a suite at 3105 Shannon Road, which is part of the U.S. 15-501 corridor between Durham and Chapel Hill. The space will be nearby a variety of other restaurants, such as bul box, Apéritif, Happy + Hale, and Cookout.

The other location will be at University Place mall in Chapel Hill. As the shopping center off South Estes Drive continues its intensive renovation, Curry Up Now will move into one of the two new retail buildings set to be constructed parallel to Fordham Boulevard. Ram Realty, the owners and development company of University Place, confirmed that the restaurant signed its lease on Monday.

The new buildings’ future placement is currently in the construction zone left from the demolition of Southern Season and the east end of the existing mall. Curry Up Now said it hopes to open its University Place in 2024, although Ram Realty projects the construction of those buildings to be completed in more than a year’s time.

The Curry Up Now menu features of a variety of Indian staples, including many street food items and easy meals for customers on-the-go. Other options include Indian Chinese fusion meals, southern Indian fried chicken, and Indian-inspired poutine. Presently, it has more than a dozen franchises in California, Texas, Georgia, New Jersey, Colorado, Utah and Indiana.

Editor’s Note: Chapel Hill Media Group is a tenant of University Place, having first moved there in 2016.
