This Friday and Saturday, August 28-29, Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro will play host to the “Be Loud ’15” festival – two days of music and more, all to raise money for the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation.
Organized by Niklaus and Lucy Steiner, the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation is named in honor of Sophie Steiner, a Chapel Hill teen who died of cancer in 2013. The Steiners have worked ever since to raise funds to support programs for teens with cancer, to ensure they’re able to maintain lives as normal as possible while receiving treatment. The foundation has raised more than $350,000 in just two years; among other things, the funds have gone to support a new teen cancer advocate at UNC Hospitals.
The Be Loud ’15 Festival will feature two days of music, with bands including Southern Culture on the Skids, John Howie Jr. and the Rosewood Bluff, the Neil Diamond Allstars, the Chicken Wire Gang, The Veldt, Dillon Fence, The Vernacular, and Preeesh! (Preeesh! is a local supergroup uniting for the first time at the festival – including members of The Pressure Boys, Dag, Let’s Active, and Ben Folds Five.) Tickets are $40 for the weekend, $20 for Friday or Saturday night, and $10 for the Saturday matinee, with proceeds going to the Foundation.
Robb Ladd and Brian Dennis of Preeesh! joined Aaron Keck on WCHL last week.
John Howie, Jr. and festival co-organizer Steve Balcom joined Aaron on WCHL Tuesday.
